Pet portrait
commissions
It is a real pleasure to be able to draw people’s pets and I work hard to ensure a realistic likeness. I create my pet portraits from photos, I like a few photos so that I can get a feel of the animal and their character. Even better if you can share some stories or memories of a much-loved pet to help me get to know them!
I can complete portraits in a variety of sizes but would normally recommend A4 so I can capture the detail. I use lightfast coloured pencils on Pastelmat paper, this enables me to create depth and texture to my drawings.
Starting a commission
The best place to start is by getting in touch with me (contact information). We can discuss what you want, my availability and timescales (particularly important if it is going to be a gift).
To complete a portrait I will need at least one, ideally a few, high quality photographs. The higher quality they are the more I can see the finer details and bring them out in my drawing. These can be taken on a smart phone or camera. As a nosy person I also enjoy hearing a few stories about your pet, this helps me understand and capture their character.
At this stage we will also agree aspects such as the size of your portrait, paper colour and if you would like a background. Once I have these details I can provide you with a quote specifically for your picture. The quote will take into account the subject(s), complexity and the number of hours it will take me to create. To give you an idea of prices prior to me providing you with a specific quote I have provided a price guide.
Securing a booking
When we have agreed what the portrait will include and a price I will ask you to pay deposit of 25% so I can get started.
The final portrait and shipping
If you would like to see the creative process, I can send you updates as I create your picture. Once I have finished your portrait I’ll send you a photo of the completed artwork. When you confirm you are happy with the portrait then we can arrange payment of the remaining balance. Once this is done I will carefully package your artwork and send it on its way to you ready for you to enjoy.
Framing
The prices quoted on my website exclude framing but I can frame a pet portrait on request. This should be agreed in the initial stages of the commission so that the cost is incorporated into the quote and additional time factored into the delivery schedule.

I first discovered Catherine after seeing a portrait that she had done of a horse. Straightaway I knew that I could trust her to draw our lovely girls who we miss terribly having passed over the rainbow bridge. I sent a favourite photo for Catherine to work from, she also asked about their characters. I enjoyed watching the portrait develop as Catherine kept me up to date. ‘ I commissioned Catherine at CM Creative to do a drawing of my daughter’s cat. It was so easy, even though I live in Ireland, my daughter (and her cat) live in England and Catherine is in Wales! All I had to do was send over some photos of Zuko and then Catherine made a few suggestions as to what would work best.
